Andrew Egan, our Managing Director, founded Adept Small Business IT in 2011 when he arrived back in Melbourne after spending 2 years in London. While in London, he was working for a Managed Services Provider ranked in the top 50 globally and top 5 for the EMEA region. This role was fast paced, highly technical and involved working on high profile accounts, including BHP Billiton, Save the Children and Tate Modern. As well as the on-site technical support delivery, Andy supervised a team of London based engineers as a team leader.
Andy began his IT career in Canberra, working for the Federal Government in both customer and infrastructure support for both internal departmental employees and up to 5,500 external departmental clients. He progressed internally to a network and server infrastructure support team, supporting a highly complex and multi-level web based application used extensively in assisting job seekers find and be placed in jobs. During this time, Andy was actively involved in managing several planned and unplanned disaster recovery events.
After making the move from Canberra to Melbourne, Andy took a role as a Lead System & Support Engineer at an IT consulting firm and was responsible for 2nd and 3rd level support of clients, as well as designing and implementing IT infrastructure solutions and providing strategic IT management. Some of the IT infrastructure solutions included Exchange and Active Directory migrations. He notably, took a leading role in converting the company’s own email from an outdated solution to Microsoft Exchange 2007 and virtualising the IT servers.
It had always been a dream of Andy’s to run his own business, helping others with their IT needs in a time of such rapid technological growth and change. Moving from London back to Melbourne provided him with the perfect opportunity. In the beginning, Andy was providing IT support on a pay as you go basis and simply resolving IT issues as they arose.
Adept IT has come quite a long way since then and taken on some large projects, including designing and implementing a 300 seat network for a rapidly growing digital agency in Melbourne’s CBD and a complete internet and network overhaul for a social club located on the Bellarine Peninsula. We pride ourselves on being able to combine a holistic view of IT operations with forward thinking capacity management and budgeting to provide more than just band-aid support and quick fixes, delivering strategic IT management and growth plans based on each client’s unique IT environment.
